On the occasion of SHARPER – European Researchers’ Night, the LabCity Architecture research group presented the experience of the workshop “In Praise of Frugality. Sensory Gardens at School,” held in July 2022 at the De Amicis School in Palermo.
The workshop involved university and school teachers, professionals, and architecture and design students from the University of Palermo, promoting a design approach geared toward sustainability, active teaching, and the quality of educational spaces.
The initiative, scientifically coordinated by Giovanna Genco and Renzo Lecardane, involved the design of five sensory gardens, a pergola-atelier, and a mobile garden, with the goal of completing their construction during the 2022–2023 school year.
Architect Mariano Genovese served as the European ERDF Project Manager, contributing to the strategic and operational framework of the project, in relation to sustainability policies and the regeneration of public spaces dedicated to education.
